ART ...THE SIMPLE WAY TO BRING
STYLE AND PERSONALITY TO YOUR HOME

Hello! It's Tommy Mac here!
In my design career, I have found that one of the most simple ways to bring style and personality to any room is a hammer, some frame hooks and a collection of your favorite photos, art, and mementos. No painting or wallpapering required!

It takes a while to collect meaningful photography, art prints, mementos....  all things that are worth displaying!  But I know it can get overwhelming to figure out where to hang your photos and art!  You might be wondering..."Can I mix frames? Can I mix art with photography? What about mementos? Do I have too much? Not enough?"

Here's a quick step by step guide to creating your own home art gallery:
  • CHOOSE YOUR STYLE      Grid or salon? A grid or linear arrangement results in a clean, crisp, formal arrangement;  a salon arrangement is an eclectic grouping of images and objects, a diverse range of pieces from oil painting, photographs, children's art, and three-dimensional objects.
  • LOOK AT THE FRAMES    I suggest this simple recipe for maintaining balance and proportion with different frames and sizes: one extra-large piece, two large pieces, two medium pieces and three small ones.
  • USE THE FLOOR       Measure the wall where  you plan to hang your gallery on and mark that space out on the floor with painter’s tape. Pile your art pieces in the space. Then, starting in the middle with the largest piece, work out from there moving your pieces around until you find the balanced composition.
  • MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE  A consistent measurement — two inches between frames, for example — works well for a grid installation, but for a salon wall you can be less precise.   If you need a guide, try building out your collection along a common horizontal line, hanging half of the images two inches above the line and the other half two inches below, to add structure.

Look at these beautiful walls and different styles...

I talk about family photos in my most recent video.
